Currently under construction, this new High School in Jackson, NC will serve approximately 400 students. The original Northampton County High School (NCHS) was located on the western end of the County, which meant that many students had to endure long transportation times to their current schools. Northampton County is utilizing the Needs-Based Public School Capital Fund (NBPSCF) to help achieve their goal of centralizing and consolidating their K-12 facilities.

The new, 105,800 SF Northampton High School is comprised of a single-story steel frame building with exterior load-bearing masonry walls. The school consists of a First Floor with Main Entry, Administration, Media Center, Gymnasium, Dining, and 25 classrooms with supported mezzanine floors. The new facility’s mechanical and plumbing systems utilize Geothermal well field with 251 wells at 265 feet deep, and its electrical systems include high-performance LED lighting, school-wide speaker system and voice evacuation, fire alarm system, and fully-integrated Video Management Systems and Security Management Systems (VMS/SMS) with access control readers on each perimeter door.

The new school will promote the performing arts and project-based learning, and will provide opportunities to integrate STEAM learning into trades. The facility will include several multi-functional learning spaces, including an outdoor learning space that also supports community gathering opportunities.
