The new Halifax County PK-8 School is located on the historic site of the original Eastman School, which began as an 18×20-foot schoolhouse in 1894. With the time, labor, and resources of the community, the school continued to grow for nearly a century until its consolidation and closure in 1981. After 40 years, the community cornerstone is being rebuilt.
The new school will be covered in red brick, just like the original. It is built with concrete foundations and spread-column footings, structural steel framing, joist, and decking, load-bearing masonry and brick veneer. Designed and constructed with longevity in mind, it features a TPO roof and all new major building systems.
The new Eastman School is scheduled to open in the Fall of 2026. It will accommodate 540 students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through eighth, and is designed with distinct spaces for elementary and middle school programs. The facility encourages collaborative learning, and includes features such as a “Social Stair” and an outdoor courtyard centered around the classroom wings.
Bordeaux Construction received the CAGC Community Impact Award for the “Junior Contractors Program.” This initiative provided an immersive learning experience on the jobsite for Halifax County Public School fifth-graders.
