The Pine Valley branch library in Wilmington, NC is a new 19,500 sf state-of-the-art facility boasting a variety of modern design elements. The façade includes a variety of metal wall panels, storefront and curtainwall, and tongue-and-groove wood ceilings and soffits that provide a continuous flow between interior and exterior. The interior of the building includes a complex, futuristic lighting system with a sophisticated lighting control system. The interior spaces are primarily designed with children in mind, as the majority of the space is catered to these needs and interests.
The space includes large, dividable adult and children’s program rooms, reading areas, play areas with teaching space, adult and children’s quiet areas, teen areas with interactive displays and gaming technology, meeting rooms, study rooms, and a large office staff areas separated from the public function. Elements of the surrounding natural beauty have been incorporated into the design that act to bring the outdoors inside. Outdoor activities, nature walk paths, and sitting areas have been also been established around the facility.
