Project Description

New, 3-story, 100,000sf facility constructed within an existing densely populated urban residential site in Chapel Hill, North Carolina to accommodate 500 K-12 students. 50 Solartube Skylight and Brightlink Light Shelves were used for daylighting the classroom spaces. A garden American Hydrotech roof was provided adjoining the science classroom for a teaching feature. The project also include an underground 45,000-cubicfoot CMP detention basin, a 60,000 gallon rainwater cistern for the school’s cooling tower and plumbing facility use. Northside Elementary School is the 1st LEED Platinum Elementary School in North Carolina, 1 of 4 LEED Platinum Elementary Schools in the Country and the 20th LEED Platinum Public School in the County.
